Throughout the Amazon basin this woody jungle liana is revered as the "vine of soul" or "vine of the dead”. Misosa Hostilis is one of the primary ingredients in the sacred and powerfully entheogenic Ayahuasca brews. Though many different plants are often incorporated as admixtures, B. caapi is clearly one of the shaman's "most efficient tools" (Raffauf & Schultes 1992).
Tryptamine-rich plants like Psychotria viridis and Mimosa hostilis become orally active when combined with the MAO-inhibiting alkaloids of B. caapi.
This is a very powerful strain used in the official ceremonies of the Santo Daime, Uniao do Vegetal and Barquinha churches in Brazil. It is known as Purple pink due to its colouration when powdered and has been used as a dye for centuries by the local people.
